A Student Shoots Himself

A teenage student of Corona Del Sol High School, Tempe, Arizona, United States, has committed suicide.

Marcus Wheeler, an 18-year-old top athlete and star cross country runner, shot himself to death at around 8:30 am on Tuesday during the school session.

A female school resource officer had tried to convince him to drop his gun but failed.

Tempe police said the tragic incident happened on Tuesday morning.

A female student, Azalea Lopez, said that the school was locked down for about 90

Minutes after the incident.

"The security guard ran in and told us everyone needs to get in the room, someone has a gun, it was really frenzied," she said.

Another student and fellow athlete, Isiah Bolden, said he talked with Wheeler before his death but saw no signs of the imminent disaster.

"I wish he did show a sign so I could have talked to him," Bolden said.

The school sent all students home after the shooting as related parents flocked in.
