Talk about the indispensable and highly profitable use of technology - especially the internet and you'll find this on top of the list. It's so awesome an idea that even a junior secondary school student marvels at its possibility - You mean it's actually possible for me to earn a university degree online?
This, I thought could only happen in advanced countries like the USA and UK's of today's world, an average Nigerian student would think but it's actually happening for real in Nigeria.
Let me introduce to you the new Obafemi Awolowo University's (OAU) online university. The university's bold tag line is this - Everyone can now go to school. OAU e-learning has made it easy.
According to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bamitale Omole during his address to over 200 pioneering students, he stressed that there is no disparity between the certificate that will be awarded at the completion of the online programme in comparison to the conventional brick and mortar students.
The online e-learning programme is an initiative of the university's center for distance learning (OAUCDL).
The university has been accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC), starting with four programmes - Nursing, Accounting, Economics and Education.
