Ogun State - We are No Longer Merging TASUED, OOU

The decision of Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, to revert initial plans to merge Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) with the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago Iwoye have been lauded by the Students of the institution.

The governor, at the 80th birthday celebration of the Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikru Kayode Adetona, in Ijebu-Ode, over the weekend, stated that the institution would continue to exist, adding that it would no longer be an institute under OOU.

The students were on a solidarity visit to the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, carrying various placards with inscriptions such as “SIA is indeed a Governor”, “SIA we appreciate your leadership spirit”, “TASUED says thank you” and “We need more of you”, among others.

He disclosed that a Governing Council would soon be constituted for the school, assuring the students that their other demands, including provision of buses, would be met as soon as possible.

The governor encouraged them to take their studies seriously and resist attempts by politicians who might want to use them for selfish ends.
