UNILORIN Gets New VC

Acting Dean of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ilorin, Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali, has been appointed the Vice Chancellor-designate of the institution.

The Registrar of UNILORIN, Mrs. Olufolake Oyeyemi, announced this after a special Senate meeting at the council chambers of the University on Thursday.

Oyeyemi said, “At a special meeting held on Wednesday July 25, 2012, the University Council received the report of the Council/Senate selection board.

“The board had been set up to access and recommend to the council, suitable candidates for the position of the Vice Chancellor, which will become vacant at the expiration of the tenure of the current Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, on October 15, 2012.

“Having carefully considered the recommendations and guided by the provisions of relevant extant laws, the council expressed satisfaction in the procedure adopted which followed the due process.

“Consequently, in compliance with the extant laws governing the appointment of Vice Chancellor, the council approved the appointment of Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali with effect from October 16, 2012.”

Ambali takes over from Oloyede whose five-year term expires on October 15, 2012.

He is a professor of veterinary medicine, UNILORIN and a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He was born on November 29 1957 and is married with children.

Meanwhile, Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, in a statement on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Abdulwahab Oba, said Ambali’s appointment followed true democratic process.

He described him as a competent hand and mature mind who would not only sustain the good legacy of the institution, but also improve on the qualities which had made the institution to be referred to as ‘Better by Far’ Citadel of learning across the world.

Ahmed said, “There is no doubt that if democratic process can thrive in the appointment of leaders in a micro environment such as the University, I am confident that the macro political environment in the country will soon become an epitome of political tolerance and democratic ethos, setting the pace for other nations of the world.”
