UNN Sends Students Packing, Releases 24hrs Deadline
Students of the University
of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) have been asked to vacate the
institution within 24 hours for a two-week break.
The directive was contained in an official statement from
the university management, signed by its Chief
Public Relations Officer, Okwun
Omeaku.
“This is to bring to the notice of all students and the
entire University Community, that the University of Nigeria shall proceed on a
TWO-WEEK MID SEMESTER BREAK with immediate effect," Omeaku.
“Consequently, all academic activities on the campuses are
hereby suspended for the period.
“Students are by this notice directed to vacate their
hostels within the next 24 HOURS, i.e., not later than 6pm. on TUESDAY, JUNE
02, 2015″.
Though the management called the break "a TWO-WEEK MID SEMESTER BREAK",
Rumours had been passed around of an impending student
action after weeks of acute water scarcity and epileptic power supply.
Students have reacted angrily to the directive.
